From Provaglio d'Iseo, discovering the highlights of the area around.

franciacortaFranciacorta landscape is dominated by soft hills covered with vineyards and dotted with castles, convents and villas. Starting from San Pietro in Lamosa Monastery in Provaglio d’Iseo looking out over the Natural Reserve of Torbiere del Sebino (peat bogs).

From here we move to Corte Franca, where we spot different 18th and 19th aristocratic buildings. We reach then Adro, where we can admire the 17th century Palazzo del Municipio (The Town Hall) and the Shrine of Madonna della Neve, that was built after the Virgin Mary appeared to a shepherd boy who was deaf and dumb.

The 16th century Villa Lechi is located in Erbusco, where we can also visit the old town with the ruins of a castle and the Romanic Parish of Santa Maria (it contains 15th century frescoes and its original apse dates back to 1100). We move to Cazzago San Martino, where we find other charming villas – like Villa Orlando, knows as ‘Castle of Bornato’ and Villa Bettoni Cazzago. View of Passirano Castle, with its crenellated walls, the square tower and two angular turrets, built during the 14th and 16th century.


Through Paderno we reach Rodengo Saiano, where we can discover St. Nicholas Abbey.franciacorta_2
We continue to Ome, famous for its spa, which was discovered in 1866. In hamlet Cerezzata there is the 15th century Sanctuary of Madonna dell’Avello. Along the road to Monticelli Brusati we can find an ancient wooden mill (Maglio Averoldi, 15th century); it is currently open for demonstrations.


In Monticelli Brusati we can visit also the 14th century Sanctuary of Madonna della Rosa. This is the way to the little hamlet of Gaina, starting point for the ‘Waterfall Path’, a beautiful nature walk in a canyon.

The return journey passes through the village of Provezze, in Provaglio d’Iseo. The route passes through several vineyards, in which Franciacorta wine is produced. In order to visit wine producers, make your request to the Associazione Strada del Franciacorta.
